PRISON ISLAND AND LUCH AT NAKUPENDA (full day excursion suitable for everyone, even families with children)

PRISON ISLAND Also known as changuu Island and accessible by boat from stonetown, it was uninhabited until 1860, when it was transformed by the Arabs into a slave detention site. In 1893, the British Prime Minister of Zanzibar bought Prison Island from the Arabs and built the prison there (hence the name), but it was never used as such. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the spread of yellow fever, Prison Island was used as a quarantine and the prison was converted into a hospital. The island has now become a park full of century-old turtles from the Seychelles, there are even specimens that go beyond the 200 years of age!

NAKUPENDA (In kiswahili means I LOVE YOU) is the name of an amazing sandbank that disappears with the high tide. The atoll is the ideal place to relax, snorkel and admire the coral reef as well as numerous starfish, all surrounded by a lovely sea with the colors that only the Indian ocean can give. A lunch of grilled fish (lobsters, cicadas, prawns, squid and octopus) is offered, as well as fried potatoes and local fruit.

Excursion dedicated to the sea, and suitable for true snorkelers. It takes place in the protected area of menai bay, where you can spot numerous dolphins. The tour also includes the visit at the characteristic blue lagoon and the mangrove way where you can dive into a natural pool and admire a magnificent age-old baobab.Lunch on the beach with lobsters, prawns, squids, rice and fruit.

Visit to the island capital, you can walk through the narrow streets of the old town, enjoy a sunset in the forodhani gardens and go shopping in the hundreds of local shops.Do not miss a visit to the Arabian Fort, the House of Wonders, the Anglican Cathedral and the house of Freddy Mercury.

Visit to the market of Darajani to closely observe a typical “African style” center of commerce.

excursion among the strangest plants in the hinterland of the island, to discover the origin of all the spices typical of zanzibarin cuisine ( Zanzibar is also called the island of spices). Stop also in a local village where you can see the typical mud houses and where you can leave notebooks, pencils, clothes etc…
You can also admire the processing of the beautiful zanzibarine doors.

Heading south towards Kizimkazi Bay from where we will sail to spot the dolphins and swim with them.Next stop at Jozani forest, the only national park of the island. Relatively small (only 50 km2), it is a quiet and charming place, which worth to be visit and where you can admire , a sort of red monkey unique in the world. Josani Forest is also populated by groups of Bushbaby (lemurs), 50 different species of butterflies and 40 species of birds. You can’t walk through the park by yourself

located at north east of Zanzibar is a private atoll with controlled access. It is not allowed to dock on the island, the only way to reach it is exclusively by sea.Mnemba is surrounded by the lcoral reef and represents a unique spectacle for snorkeling and diving lovers.
