In 1893, the British Prime Minister of Zanzibar bought Prison Island from the Arabs and built the prison there (hence the name), but it was never used as such. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the spread of yellow fever, Prison Island was used as a quarantine and the prison was converted into a hospital. The island has now become a park full of century-old turtles from the Seychelles, there are even specimens that go beyond the 200 years of age!
NAKUPENDA (In kiswahili means I LOVE YOU) is the name of an amazing sandbank that disappears with the high tide. The atoll is the ideal place to relax, snorkel and admire the coral reef as well as numerous starfish, all surrounded by a lovely sea with the colors that only the Indian ocean can give.
